Hi everyone -

As done last year, we're asking for 1 to 2 page whitepapers for any proposed field projects in 2026 that aren't directly related to maintenance of the real-time network. Examples of such projects in the past have included:
-Geological field work
-Measurements of volcanic gas emissions
-Campaign GPS measurements

We invite any members of AVO to submit a proposed project using the attached template by emailing it to the leadership of AVO (David Fee, Scott Crass, and Matt Haney) by COB January 9. Our email addresses are copied below. We will evaluate the proposals and decide which ones to proceed with by the time of the AVO Coordination Meeting on Jan. 27-28.

The AVO field season will need to be run very efficiently in 2026 and therefore we don't expect to go ahead with projects that require substantial additional resources. Copied below is the current "strawman" schedule for network maintenance in 2026, which is in the same directory on the AVO Sharepoint as was used for the Field Season Wrap-Up Meeting. The whitepaper template is also copied in that directory. The geology group at AVO has been using a similar process as described here for many years and this effort is synergistic with that process.

Sincerely,
Matt (mhaney@usgs.gov), David (dfee1@alaska.edu), and Scott Crass (scott.crass@alaska.gov)
