DUTY SCIENTIST REPORT– Tim Orr
+ GREAT SITKIN (Orange/Watch):
• Elevated surface temps were seen every day in VIIRS imagery.
• Weak steaming visible one day in webcam views.
• Weak seismicity throughout the week.
+ SHISHALDIN (Yellow/Advisory):
• Seismicity remained elevated with frequent small earthquakes. Infrasound signals were detected occasionally when the wind noise was sufficiently low.
• Satellite and webcam views showed ongoing gas emissions when views were clear.
• Very weak thermal anomaly visible in mid-IR imagery on several days.
• No SO2 (from Taryn’s report)
• Hannah Dietterich reported that MAXAR images are no longer available due to government cutbacks. There have been no changes seen in Radar imagery.
+ KATMAI (Green/Normal):
• Resuspended ash blowing toward Kodiak much of the week. SIGMETs on several days – the last was on Saturday.
• Chris Waythomas asked about flight impacts in Kodiak due to the resuspended ash. It looks like SIGMETS have been to the south.
+ CNMI/AHYI (Yellow/Advisory):
• Nothing seen in satellite views, which were mostly cloudy.
• A couple of low-confidence detections at Wake Island.
+ OTHER:
• Entire network went down Saturday afternoon and was out for over 24 hours. Fixed this morning. There will be an after-action meeting to address prevention, contingency plans for future issues and to review notification scenarios. The outage was reported in the AVO daily report on Sunday. Recommendation to conduct a mini-calldown, mainly to NOAA and FAA.
NET OPS/FIELDWORK: Ellie Boyce
+ Color Code:
• Great Sitkin – All stations working.
• Shishaldin – All stations working except some SSBA data gaps.
+ Network, Multi-Station and Array Outages:
• Data outage over this weekend due to network issues
• Port Heiden (#aniakchak, #veniaminof (north side) - 2025-12-13 07:07:08 UTC Power outage is ongoing.
+ Single Station Issues
• Wrangell – WAZA continues to be very gappy. Tolsona sites continue to have minor data gaps at IRIS. AVO Winston copy complete.
• Iliamna – ILLG remains out, ILCB is newly out, ILSW power getting low.
• Shishaldin – SSBA/AV36 and ISNN/AV38 low power, GNSS powered off at both stations to conserve power for seismic data.
• Westdahl – WECS seismic offline to conserve power for GNSS and radios.
• Akutan -LVA out due to low voltage.
• Okmok – OKAK and OKWE no telemetry.
• Bogoslof – BOGO completely out last week, it was on back on briefly on 11/12 and 11/13.
• Adak – Infrasound element 6 is not working and element 2 reported as having reversed polarity.
• Little Sitkin -Gappy data and outages from LSNW and LSSA probably due to icing on LSSA radio antennas.
+ Matt Haney asked about the Aniakchak/partial Veniaminof outage. If data cannot be restored soon, we will need to move Aniakchak to unassigned. Ellie noted that the backup generator is no longer being maintained by the FAA. She is working with a local resident to try to restore power.
