(11) Volcanic Activity Summary:An intensive thermal anomaly was detected over Alaid volcano starting 00:39 UTC on September 15, and it continues to noting till present. KVERT consider this phenomenon as a beginning of Strombolian explosive eruption of Alaid volcano. KVERT continues to monitor Alaid volcano.

Moderate eruptive activity of the volcano continues. Ash explosions up to 19,700 ft (6 km) a.s.l. could occur at any time. Ongoing activity could affect international and low-flying aircraft.

(14) Remarks:Alaid - the volcano-Island, the most northern in the Kurile archipelago, is situated at a distance 30 km north-west from Paramushir and 70 km south-west from Kamchatka. Alaid exposes high potential hazard to the aircrafts flying over Kamchatka and the Northern Kuriles because its eruptive clouds can rise to a height of 10-15 km above the crater and extend for hundreds of kilometers (up to 1500 km) and the duration of eruptions can exeed a few months. Last its eruption was in 2016.
