KVERT WEEKLY INFORMATION RELEASE 18-2019 Kamchatkan and Kuriles Volcanic Activity May 02, 2019, 23:25 UTC (May 03, 2019, 11:25 KST) KVERT monitor 30 active volcanoes of Kamchatka and 6 active volcanoes of Northern Kuriles. Not all of these volcanoes had eruptions in historical time, however they are potentially active and therefore are of concern to aviation. Ash explosions up to 32,800-49,200 ft (10-15 km) a.s.l. could occur at any time. Ongoing activity could affect international and low-flying aircraft. A growth of the lava dome continues (a viscous lava blocks extrude out on the northern part of it), a strong fumarolic activity and an incandescence of the dome blocks and hot avalanches accompanies this process. A moderate eruptive activity of the volcano continues. Satellite data shows a weak thermal anomaly over the volcano on 27 and 29 April, and 02 May. A moderate explosive activity of the volcano continues. According to visual data by volcanologists from Severo-Kurilsk, explosions sent ash up to 3.0 km a.s.l. last week. Ongoing activity could affect low-flying aircraft. A growth of the lava dome continues (viscous lavas extrude and effuse out on the western part of the lava dome), a strong fumarolic activity and an incandescence of the dome accompanies this prosess.
