Not all of these volcanoes had eruptions in historical time, however they are potentially active and therefore are of concern to aviation. Ash explosions up to 10-15 km (32,800-49,200 ft) a.s.l. could occur at any time. Ongoing activity could affect international and low-flying aircraft. A growth of the lava dome continues, a strong fumarole activity, and an incandescence of the lava dome, explosions, and hot avalanches accompanies this process. A moderate eruptive activity of the volcano continues. According to visual data by volcanologists from Severo-Kurilsk, explosions sent ash up to 3 km a.s.l. on 19, and 22-25 August, ash clouds moved to the northern and eastern directions of the volcano. According to visual data, an ash emission from the volcano was noted on 22 August: the ash plume rose up to 2 km a.s.l., and extended to the east of the volcano. Satellite data by KVERT showed ash clouds and plumes sometimes were observed on 22-25 August. Ash rose up to 2 km a.s.l., and ash plumes stretched for 20 km to the eastern directions of the volcano.
