Not all of these volcanoes had eruptions in historical time, however they are potentially active and therefore are of concern to aviation. A growth of the lava dome continues, a strong fumarolic activity sometimes with some amount of ash, and an incandescence of the dome blocks and hot avalanches accompanies this process. A moderate explosive eruption of the volcano continues, the Strombolian activity was noted all week, Vulcanian activity was observed on 22 January: explosions sent ash up to 5-6 km a.s.l. According to visual data by volcanologists from Severo-Kurilsk, explosions sent ash up to 3 km a.s.l. on 19-20 January; ash clouds drifted to the eastern directions of the volcano; ashfall was noted at Severo-Kurilsk on 19 January.
