Not all of these volcanoes had eruptions in historical time, however they are potentially active and therefore are of concern to aviation. Ash explosions up to 10-15 km (32,800-49,200 ft) a.s.l. could occur at any time. Ongoing activity could affect international and low-flying aircraft. A growth of the lava dome continues, a strong fumarolic activity, and an incandescence of the lava dome and hot avalanches accompanie this process. The danger of ash explosions up to 5-6 km (16,400-19,700 ft) a.s.l. from flank craters remains. Ongoing activity could affect low-flying aircraft. The lateral break on the northwestern slope of the volcano at an altitude of 2800 m a.s.l. began to form on 17 February. Two craters have formed, from which lava flows continue to flow. Mud flows associated with the movement of lava, on 23 February passed along Krutenkaya River for 7 km from Klyuchi Village. The lateral break eruption continues. The fumarole activity of the volcano also continues. A moderate explosive eruption of the volcano continues. According to visual data by volcanologists from Severo-Kurilsk, explosions sent ash up to 3.6 km a.s.l. all week; ash clouds drifted to the east and southeast of the volcano; an ashfall was noted on 20 February at Severo-Kurilsk.
