Not all of these volcanoes had eruptions in historical time, however they are potentially active and therefore are of concern to aviation. Ash explosions up to 32,800-49,200 ft (10-15 km) a.s.l. could occur at any time. Ongoing activity could affect international and low-flying aircraft. A growth of the lava dome continues (a viscous lava blocks extrude out on the northern part of it), a strong fumarolic activity and an incandescence of the dome blocks and hot avalanches accompanies this process. According to satellite data, strong gas-steam plumes sometimes with some amount of ash on the height up to 3.5-4.0 km a.s.l. drifted for about 50 km to the east from the volcano on 01 March. Satellite data shows ash plumes on the height up to 3.5 km a.s.l. extending for about 90 km to the eastern directions from the volcano on 01 and 04-05 March. According to visual data by volcanologists from Severo-Kurilsk, explosions sent ash up to 2.5 km a.s.l. on 01-02 and 05 March; ashfalls were noted at Severo-Kurilsk on 01 and 05 March.
