KVERT WEEKLY INFORMATION RELEASE 21-2022 Kamchatkan and Kuriles Volcanic Activity May 26, 2022, 22:34 UTC (May 27, 2022, 10:34 KST) KVERT monitor active volcanoes of Kamchatka and the Kurile Islands. Not all of these volcanoes had eruptions in historical time, however they are potentially active and therefore are of concern to aviation. Ash explosions up to 10-15 km (32,800-49,200 ft) a.s.l. could occur at any time. Ongoing activity could affect international and low-flying aircraft. A growth of the lava dome continues, a strong fumarole activity, and an incandescence of the lava dome, explosions, and hot avalanches accompanies this process. Ash explosions up to 10 km (32,800 ft) a.s.l. could occur at any time. Ongoing activity could affect international and low-flying aircraft. The extrusive-effusive eruption of the volcano continues, a strong fumarole activity, and an incandescence of the lava dome, and hot avalanches accompanies this process. Strong collapses of hot avalanches on the eastern flank of the lava dome were occurring on 23-26 May, ash clouds rose up to 5 km a.s.l. KVERT analyses information from remote scientific observation stations and seismic data for volcanoes: Alaid, Avachinsky, Bezymianny, Gorely, Karymsky, Kizimen, Klyuchevskoy, Koryaksky, Mutnovsky, Plosky Tolbachik, Sheveluch, Ushkovsky, Zhupanovsky (from the Kamchatkan Branch of Geophysical Survey RAS); and other information to monitor activity at Kamchatkan and Kuriles Volcanoes.
