Not all of these volcanoes had eruptions in historical time, however they are potentially active and therefore are of concern to aviation. Ash explosions up to 10-15 km (32,800-49,200 ft) a.s.l. could occur at any time. Ongoing activity could affect international and low-flying aircraft. A growth of the lava dome continues, a strong fumarole activity, and an incandescence of the lava dome, explosions, and hot avalanches accompanies this process. A moderate eruptive activity of the volcano continues. According to visual data by volcanologists from Severo-Kurilsk, explosions sent ash up to 3.5 km a.s.l. on 25-26, 28, and 30-31 August, and 01 September; ash clouds moved to the northern and eastern directions of the volcano; ashfalls were noted at Severo-Kurilsk on 30 August.
