Not all of these volcanoes had eruptions in historical time, however they are potentially active and therefore are of concern to aviation. Ash explosions up to 32,800-49,200 ft (10-15 km) a.s.l. could occur at any time. Ongoing activity could affect international and low-flying aircraft. A growth of the lava dome continues, a strong fumarolic activity and an incandescence of the dome blocks and hot avalanches accompanies this process. According to visual data by volcanologists from Severo-Kurilsk, on 27-28 August explosions sent ash up to 3 km a.s.l. all week, ash clouds drifted to the east from the volcano; ashfalls were noted at Severo-Kurilsk in these days.
