Not all of these volcanoes had eruptions in historical time, however they are potentially active and therefore are of concern to aviation. Ash explosions up to 10-15 km (32,800-49,200 ft) a.s.l. could occur at any time. Ongoing activity could affect international and low-flying aircraft. A growth of the lava dome continues, a strong fumarolic activity, and an incandescence of the lava dome and hot avalanches accompanie this process. The danger of ash explosions up to 4-5 km (13,120-16,400 ft) a.s.l. from the flank crater and the lava flow front (phreatic explosions at the contact of the flow with the Erman glacier) remains. Ongoing activity could affect low-flying aircraft. The flank eruption on the northwestern slope of the volcano at an altitude of 2800 m a.s.l. with Strombolian activity of the cinder cone, and the lava flow effusing, continues. The fumarole activity of the volcano summit also continues. Ash explosions up to 6 km (19,700 ft) a.s.l. could occur at any time. Ongoing activity could affect low-flying aircraft and airport of Severo-Kurilsk. A moderate explosive eruption of the volcano continues. According to visual data by volcanologists from Severo-Kurilsk, explosions sent ash up to 2.6 km a.s.l. all week, except for 16-17 March (the volcano was obscured by clouds); ash clouds drifted to the northeast, east, and northwest of the volcano; an ashfall was noted on 12 March at Severo-Kurilsk.
