KVERT WEEKLY INFORMATION RELEASE 24-2019 Kamchatkan and Kuriles Volcanic Activity June 13, 2019, 23:52 UTC (June 14, 2019, 11:52 KST) KVERT monitor 30 active volcanoes of Kamchatka and 6 active volcanoes of Northern Kuriles. Not all of these volcanoes had eruptions in historical time, however they are potentially active and therefore are of concern to aviation. Ash explosions up to 32,800-49,200 ft (10-15 km) a.s.l. could occur at any time. Ongoing activity could affect international and low-flying aircraft. A growth of the lava dome continues, a strong fumarolic activity and an incandescence of the dome blocks and hot avalanches accompanies this process. According to video and satellite data, 11-12 June, explosions and hot avalanches sent ash up to 4.0-4.5 km a.s.l. on the backgroung of a strong gas-steam activity of the volcano. Ash plume extended for 60 km to the west-northwest of the volcano. Ash explosions up to 19,700-23,000 ft (6-7 km) a.s.l. could occur at any time. Ongoing activity could affect low-flying aircraft. A moderate activity of the volcano continues. According to video and satellite data, 11-12 June explosions sent ash up to 5.5-6.0 km a.s.l., and ash plume extended for 200 km to the west-northwest of the volcano.
