They are glued in the center but they stick out around the edges. There were very few rocks like that there and she collected one sample. The rock's colors are redish and blackish and they are smooth. Her friends are saying that she could not have found them there. We could send you a picture, if you wish. We would like to learn how they came about being on that beach and how they are formed. You would settle an on going argument. I have a theory that the moon's position affects the activity of the active lava. So, the closer the moon, the more influence on the lava and therefore the eruption potential. I can't find any study or discussion on this. So what I expect is that IF an eruption were to happen, it would be when the moon is closest to the earth (high tide, of course). Can you direct me to a source of information for this topic or answer it? Hello Annette - Thank you for sending us your observations! We could also see the plume from webcam images last night - but couldn't smell the sulfur, of course. If you have more observations of Cleveland, please do email them to us via the website (because someone is always assigned to check those) or if you believe it is more urgent, call our main number at 907 786 7497. Hello Charles- We're looking into the webicorder problem. But seismic data is still coming in to our offices and accessible through internal tools, so we are still able to monitor the volcanoes. Hi Laura, I talked to Kristi Wallace, there's no such station near Spurr. She suggests contacting the National Weather Service, and possible the Ak Dept of Environmental Conservation.
