I have carried out microscope analysis on two cores collected from Toolik lake and am now trying to identify potential source volcanoes for my findings. I am unable to carry out geochemical analysis as it is too expensive to undertake at my level so the only way I could possibly identify the cryptotephra is by comparing the morphological characteristics to previous recordings. However, I am unable to find this on the website, I can only find geochemical info. Is there any data available on the morphological characteristics of tephra from certain volcanoes and if so please could you point me in the direction of it Any help would be greatly appreciated! Hi Mike! Yes, we know that flash is often not supported now and will soon be unsupported by chrome. We are working to use a different system for the webcam videos, and have already transitioned many of our image-database videos (https://www.avo.alaska.edu/images/image_search_results.php?volcano=&year%5B… ) to non-flash. Hi Alfred, Thanks for contacting us regarding your trip to Unimak next summer. We will have staff on the island at some point next summer as well, however, we will only be near Shishaldin if our data and observations indicate it's safe. Please make sure you check in with us before you make plans to visit Shishaldin. It is currently erupting and if you are on-island, eruptive activity can escalate with little warning, producing pyroclastic flows, ash fall, lahars (mudflows), and lava flows. Flowage events can affect all aspects of the volcano and drainages can be dangerous from the summit all the way to the coast. Ash fall can affect all areas of the island, depending on wind direction. Shishaldin is in an active state of eruption and snow and ice conditions will remain unstable for many months. Heavy rains will continue to produce dangerous lahars even several months after eruptive activity has ceased as loose ash and rocks on the snow surface mixed with rain cause significant erosion and mudflows affecting all drainages that source on Shishaldin volcano.
