Hello DS - My knowledge of volcanism in Alaska is really concentrated on stuff that happened in just the last two million years, but even so, I'm not aware of any ancient caldera in the Interior. Down near Denali are the Buzzard Creek maars - two small tuff rings formed about 3000 years ago. http://www.avo.alaska.edu/volcanoes/volcinfo.php?volcname=Buzzard%20Creek Might these be what you read about?
