Hello Nick - We do, at times, have volunteers, but they have to provide their own housing, transportation, and food. Additionally, much of what we do in January is not glamorous in any way. If this still sounds good to you, then the thing to do is check out our staff page and find a person in a discipline that interests you and contact that person directly. Message: One time my friend did an experiment and he actually heard a volcano scream. He wanted to reenact it and he found that if you place a gigantic stethoscope. The same kind the doctors use to hear heartbeats, that you can actually possibly hear the volcano making their screams about 2 weeks ahead of time and he says that would give you enough time to get a warning out. He's studying to be a Rocket Scientist. So, I thought, well, maybe I should give this suggestion to you guys. You guys can probably check it out. If it works...why not? It's worth a go to me. How about you? Sure, I love sharing ideas. Especially if they have a possibility of working for everyone concerned. Hello Lisa - Cheryl Searcy, our duty scientist of the week and also seismologist will write you an email with more information, but I thought I'd send a quick note to say thanks for the observations and to let you know we're looking into things. We only have one working station on Gareloi at present, however. Our main phone number: (907) 786-7497 is a way to reach an AVO staff person (often via answering service) 24/7.
