Hi Russel - Thank you for the observation report! Shishaldin is currently at color code ORANGE, and there is low-level eruptive activity confined to the summit crater that often produces a visible steam plume with possible minor amounts of ash. Can you describe what you saw last night? If you have photographs, we would also love to see those.
