Hello Katherine - AVO does not have an internship program. Occasionally, people do volunteer with AVO by contacting AVO researchers in their field of interest to work out a plan of action, and paying for their own travel, lodging, and food. AVO's staff list (with contact information) is here: https://www.avo.alaska.edu/about/staff.php We do recommend the International Volcanology Field School: https://www.uaf.edu/geology/academics/international-volcanology/ (if you are interested in this, send your application in soon, as they're working on finalizing the class list). HVO has a formal volunteer program: http://hvo.wr.usgs.gov/volunteer/ AVO does have a current short-term non-perm position open now, but it is currently restricted to Alaska residents: http://agency.governmentjobs.com/alaska/default.cfm?action=viewJob&jobID=1300221 Best wishes on your studies! -Cheryl Cameron -------- Katherine E Connell wrote: Dear AVO, I am a budding geologist working on my MS degree with hopes of working as a volcanologist down the road. I am wondering to who I may send a cover letter/resume/application and recommendations for review? I have been on USGS, Pathways, GeoCorps etc and cannot find an opportunity specific to my desired field. Getting professional experience at an observatory is one of the most desired positions of which I can think! If there are any opportunities at the AVO, please let me know.
