Hello, Gideon, Thank you for your question. The dates and locations in the 1913 images you linked are probably correct. However, describing the activity in the photos as an “eruption” is the source of the confusion. There was a lot of post 1912-eruption steam, gas, and fumarolic activity at Novarupta and elsewhere in the eruption zone. For example, note the description of activity from 1926 in the Volcano Letter here: https://avo.alaska.edu/pdfs/KatmaiLakeSurvey_Motyka_DGGSShortNotes1977_GR55.... And the description of “smoke and fumes” in this newspaper account from 1913: https://access.newspaperarchive.com/us/nevada/reno/nevada-state-journal/1913... -AVO Dear Ladies and Gentlemen, I am trying to further my knowledge about Mount Katmai. In the Library of Congress, I have found two images supposedly showing an Eruption from Katmai in 1913 (Link Below). However, on your website, it says Hildreth (1983) states: "Published compilations notwithstanding, there are no credible reports of historic eruptions in the Katmai group except at Novarupta in 1912 and at Trident in 1953 - 1968." Which source is correct/Do the Images show Mount Katmai? Any/all help/advice would be greatly appreciated.
