Hello Jeff - The easiest volcanoes to walk on aren't in Alaska - but Hawaii and the Cascades have several to choose from. Many volcanoes in Alaska are in National Parks or Wildlife Refuges, meaning that a visit requires special permits from federal agencies. The Holocene (active in last 11,700 years) volcanoes all require boat/helicopter/floatplane. The easiest one to reach is Augustine, which means you'd need to charter a boat or floatplane from somewhere on the Kenai peninsula. Augustine is on State of Alaska land. The Ski Mountaineering website has been putting together information about private citizen access to Alaska volcanoes: http://www.skimountaineer.com/ROF/Contents.php?section=NorAm Thank you, Cheryl Cameron -------- Jeff Clift wrote: I am wondering if there are any volcanoes that can be accessed by car and hiking or boat and hiking. I just want to see a volcano on the ground as well as air. I know they are remote, but can plan the trips needed to get there.
