Hello Ashley - Iliamna has prominent, long-lived fumaroles that are sometimes mistaken for volcanic eruptions. Looking at the webcams yesterday, they appear to be the source of the white vapor plume. The vapor from the fumaroles can appear quite large, depending on atmospheric conditions, but fumarolic activity at Iliamna is normal and doesn't represent a change from background. An AVO seismologist double-checked the seismic data from Iliamna, and found nothing unusual. Most of our Iliamna seismic stations aren't working properly and need fieldwork. The ones that are working, but not displaying properly on the public website we will work on in the office. Thank you Cheryl Cameron -------- Ashley Smith wrote: Hi there, Ashley Smith with KSRM News, I was wondering if there is any activity with Iliamna today(Saturday, March 12). On the Kenai Peninsula here we can see what looks like quite a plume coming from it and it looks like the most recent webicorder activity on it only goes to Thursday evening. If there's anything going on with it, feel free to contact me on my cell phone at 398-8470. You can also email our whole news team at news@radiokenai.com.
