Dear Karen, Thank you for writing. This current eruption of Shishaldin is not very large in the global scheme of things, and will likely not have an effect on global weather as it is many times smaller than the eruptions studied in the past that produced small temporary global cooling. The USGS has a pretty good page on volcanoes, climate, CO2, and related questions here: https://www.usgs.gov/programs/VHP/volcanoes-can-affect-climate Thank you, cheryl What is the carbon footprint of this kind of activity if that is the right way to pose that question? That activity must have some impact on global weather I would think. Thank you for your thoughts.
