Good morning, We don't have a Polovina Island in Alaska that I know of, but there is a well known rookery on Polovina Hill on St. Paul Island in the Pribilof Islands of Alaska. Polovina is a surname and was likely given to that hill during Russian occupation for seal hunting. There are a few hundred residents of St. Paul, mostly native Aleut people (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saint_Paul_Island_(Alaska)). The island is volcanic in origin, the result of many basalt vents near each other coalescing into one island. More information is here https://avo.alaska.edu/volcanoes/volcinfo.php?volcname=st.%20paul%20island and here https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/S0377027309000717 Good luck in your learning! -AVO I am interested in learning more about Polovina Island/rookery, etc. How did it come by the name-Polovina? Are their inhabitants? Any sources you can suggest would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. Sincerely, Candice
