Hello Tobias - AVO does not have a formal internship program, although the Hawaii Volcano Observatory does have such a program. We do occasionally have volunteers who pay all of their own expenses and donate their time to the Observatory. If you were interested in doing that, you should examine our staff page (https://www.avo.alaska.edu/about/staff.php ) and reach out directly to someone working on projects that interest you. Typically these volunteers are geology or geophysics undergraduate students at University of Alaska Anchorage or Alaska Pacific University. AVO does have offices in Anchorage and Fairbanks, but most AVO personnel are in Anchorage. Safety considerations make it difficult for volunteers to do field work, although there are many in-office projects. Best wishes on your studies, Cheryl -------- Tobias Kern wrote: Dear Madam or Sir, in May this year I graduate from my German high-school. My main subjects are geography and physics. After that I would like to study geology or geophysics. As I have agreat interest in volcanology I would like to do an intership abroad in the field of volcanology to gain experience in the work of volcanologists and, as far as possible, do some work there of my self. Starting July of this year I do have a time span of approximately nine months for this intership, because I have to apply for university afterwards. Therefore I would like to inquire wether such a work placement would be possible with you in the given period of time and if yes under which conditions. I am aware of that an internship like this will cause costs. I would be supported by my parents. I am looking forward to your response.
