Hello Nina - These earthquakes are part of an ongoing swarm of activity, and are likely glacial. It is not unusual to see these glacial swarms at Spurr during the summer months. We have been watching them closely, and are working in conjuction with the Alaska Earthquake Center. Spurr is monitored for volcanic activity all the time. At present, we do not see any indications of volcanic unrest, so we are not elevating the Aviation Color Code or the Volcanic Alert Level. Thank you, Cheryl -------- Nina Williams wrote: I have noticed the seismic activity has increased since the 12th of this month from near Spurr, I'm wondering if its glacial or activity from within? If it's actual activity how long does it sometimes take for an increase in the activity to have it monitored more for an upcoming eruption if it is activity from within the chambers? -- Cheryl Cameron Geologist, Alaska Volcano Observatory Alaska Division of Geological & Geophysical Surveys voice: 907-451-5012 fax: 907-451-5050
