Hello Ray - The Augustine Homer camera is on a bluff, and the property isn't tightly controlled. We do try to send someone down to cut the weeds periodically, but Homer is about a 4 hour drive from our offices in Anchorage, so we wait to do this until we have other tasks to do there also. Happily, there are other Augustine webcams: https://www.avo.alaska.edu/webcam/Augustine_-_island.php https://www.avo.alaska.edu/webcam/Augustine_-_Lagoon.php The Cleveland camera quit functioning this winter. We hope to repair it during field work this summer. (Cleveland is a difficult and expensive place to get to! They don't call it "Cradle of the Storms" for nothing!) Thank you, Cheryl Cameron -------- Ray Sypher wrote: Hi; Was wondering if it might be a good idea to elevate the Augustine-Homer camera by about 6'! I assume that camera is on a bluff with some kind of public recreation allowed. This year, after the down-slope weeds began thriving(and not whacked)and the weather warmed, all we have for a view of the volcano is very tall weeds, camper shells, people, lawn chairs, pooches and lately an archery target with arrows. My thoughts: a taller cam position would allow for an unimpeded view. My 2 cents! Ray from Idaho PS What happened to the Cleveland camera? I understood that Mt. Cleveland was getting restless and I was hoping to actually see some activity -- Cheryl Cameron Geologist, Alaska Volcano Observatory Alaska Division of Geological & Geophysical Surveys voice: 907-451-5012 fax: 907-451-5050
