Hello DS - My knowledge of volcanism in Alaska is really concentrated on stuff that happened in just the last two million years, but even so, I'm not aware of any ancient caldera in the Interior. Down near Denali are the Buzzard Creek maars - two small tuff rings formed about 3000 years ago. http://www.avo.alaska.edu/volcanoes/volcinfo.php?volcname=Buzzard%20Creek Might these be what you read about? Hope this is helpful, Cheryl -------- DS Hogan wrote: Greetings, Approximately 10-years or more past I read an article in some AK magazine that I cannot recall concerning a hike in the vicinity of chicken and eagle Alaska to an ancient volcanic caldera. Photos were included and it appeared very small and perhaps even difficult to distinguish if you were not told what to look for. For many years now I have been searching for this geologic feature online and in publication but can't seem to find it. Do you have any knowledge or resources or perhaps point me to some that might help me reveal the name or location of any calderas in that chicken / eagle region besides mt prindle? I would very much appreciate any help.
