Message: Dear AVO, Hello, my name is Ben Ferraiuolo. Before I start, could you please pass this on to the developers of SWARM? I am a beginner amateur seismologist who hopes to join the University of Washington in the next year for volcanology and seismology. I have been studying seismology vigorously over the past few months and have been monitoring many different volcanoes. I have been using the seismic analysis program SWARM for many different events I have been studying. I have a question. Will there be a v.2.8.7 coming out eventually? If so, may I make a suggestion real quick? Whenever I uncheck “log power” for the spectra options, for some reason it messes up the spectrogram plots until I check “log power”. It seems whenever you mess with the two spectra options, it messes with the spectrogram plots. However the spectra plots and spectrogram plots should be separate, right? So is this a glitch that needs fixing? Or is this how the program should work? I just ask because it gets slightly frustrating that unchecking “log power” and/or “log frequency” in the spectra options directly changes the spectrogram plots as well and makes them unusable until I re-check those spectra options. Of course it is quick to change but over hours and hours of in depth analysis it gets a little frustrating having to go back into the settings each time. I like to generate plots for my research. I generate seismogram, spectrogram, and spectral plots all on one image. I have to literally take a screen shot of each plot, then paste it into photoshop or paint, and then redo that for the next two plots. So it gets a little time consuming when I go from the spectral plot (with “log power” unchecked) to a spectrogram plot and have to go back into the settings and re-check the “log power” option. I am simply wondering if there is any way just to separate the spectra and spectrogram options. They obviously are not connected in the wave settings but, again, any change to the 2 spectra options directly affects the spectrogram plots too! Will this be changed? Because to me this appears to be a glitch since it renders the spectrogram plots unusable. Thank you for your time and I hope to hear back from you soon. I would love to see that one problem removed. Besides that one problem, SWARM has been a huge help for me. It is the main program I use (at least so far) and has helped me learn a great deal about seismology. I only hope that one problem gets fixed. Thank you again and have a wonderful day! Sincerely, Benjamin R.
