Hello Bob - Thank you very much for sending along your observations and descriptions, we appreciate it very much. There was also a pilot report at about this time of ash at Veni - although it still isn't visible in satellite imagery. We also have our new and nifty "Is Ash Falling" part of the website, which hopefully you won't have cause to use! http://www.avo.alaska.edu/ashfall/ashreport.php Thank you again, Cheryl -------- Bob Murphy wrote: Veniaminof has erupted at about 2230 with a dark ash cloud that is visible from the Alaska Department of Fish and Game office in Port Moller. The eruption has been continuous with ask rising to about 12,000 feet and the cloud is being flattened by strong SE winds (20 kts) in the area. The ash cloud has extended about 10 miles from the site and continues to be swept by winds. -- Cheryl Cameron Geologist, Alaska Volcano Observatory Alaska Division of Geological & Geophysical Surveys voice: 907-451-5012 fax: 907-451-5050
