Re: Alaska Range - sunset Eruption/ash cloud
Hello Marty - Two volcanoes south of Redoubt in Cook Inlet have large, noticeable, and normal steam plumes under optimal atmospheric conditions - Iliamna and Augustine. Redoubt itself has been having vapor plumes associated with cooling from the 2009 lava dome. Thank you for your interest, Cheryl -------- Marty Robinson wrote: Sunday, March 4 around 7 pm. We had just finished dinner at Simon and Seaforts and had returned to our hotel room at the Captin Cook and saw what appeared to be an expanding vertical ash plume over a volcanic peak across the Cook Inlet south of Mt Redoubt. It was clearly defined and silhouetted by a red sky shortly after sunset.. If it was an ash plume, what volcano was it associated with? Did AVO record any activity at this time.. -- Cheryl Cameron Geologist, Alaska Volcano Observatory Alaska Division of Geological & Geophysical Surveys voice: 907-451-5012 fax: 907-451-5050
