Re: Large debris trail avalanche on Illiamna new today
Hi Dennis! Thank you for the pictures and observations. We are glad to have them! -Cheryl -------- Dennis Anderson wrote: Hello folks, This morning I see a debris trail down Red glacier on the eastern flank of Illiamna that was not there yesterday. I sent three images to Cheryl Cameron but if there is another place I should send them let me know. There is vigorous fumerole activity today and a pretty good steam plume reaching about 1500 feet above the summit. The debris trail is approximately 5000 vertical feet and I can see steaming of debris closer to the top and southern fumerole field. There is also some reddish-gray discoloration of the snow higher up from wind blown ash (?) The debris trail looks dark due to melt water and seems to have done some channeling down into the glacier. -- Cheryl Cameron Geologist, Alaska Volcano Observatory Alaska Division of Geological & Geophysical Surveys voice: 907-451-5012 fax: 907-451-5050
