Hello Doug - Thank you for asking! Yes, if pilots report ash, please fill out the Volcanic Ash Report (VAR) form, found in appendix 2 here: http://www.faa.gov/air_traffic/publications/ATPubs/AIM/aim.pdf (This form is also referenced here: http://www.faa.gov/air_traffic/publications/atpubs/fss/fss0902.html ) I realize your shift is likely near-finished, but this information shouldn't go stale! The form says you should send it to the Global Volcanism People, but for Alaskan eruptions, I know we would appreciate a copy as well. Many thanks! -Cheryl Cameron -------- Doug Arens wrote: Hello AVO, I'm a radio operator for San Francisco Aeronatutical Radio, Inc. Today I'm working flights from Toyoko to Anchorage and I was wondering if a pilot reports seeing an ash cloud, what type of information should I ask for? The usual information latitude and longitude and winds are given, but how about altitude and direction of cloud?
