Re: Shishaldin Volcano location
Hello William - I just double-checked the Shishaldin location given in the Daily Update, and it plots correctly at the summit of Shishaldin (Shishaldin Volcano is Mount Shishaldin, yes.) The Daily Update gives the lat/long in degrees, minutes, seconds format. If you just copy and paste it whole into google maps, it plots correctly. But if you take out the degree, minutes, seconds symbols and try to represent these numbers in decimal degrees, the point plots in the ocean south of Shishaldin. The location of Shishaldin in DMS format is: 54°45'19" N 163°58'16" W and in DD: 54.7554 N, -163.9711 E Hope this is helpful, Cheryl Cameron -------- William Cuell wrote: Is the Shishaldin Volcano and Mount Shishaldin the same place? Putting the L&L co-ordinates into Google maps, using the location given from my AVO email, shows Shishaldin Volcano as an underwater volcano. -- Cheryl Cameron Geologist, Alaska Volcano Observatory Alaska Division of Geological & Geophysical Surveys voice: 907-451-5012 fax: 907-451-5050
