Jennifer, Thanks for your report. We have folks in our AVO office in Anchorage who are trying to reach Gerald right now. There is no need to panic. The activity at the volcano consists of emission of minor amounts of ash and steam, as well as lava flows that are contained within a few thousand feet of the cone within the ice and snow in the caldera. More energetic explosions could deposit ash on the flanks of the volcano. We are monitoring the volcano with seismic instruments and satellite images, and if activity escalates, we will put out an information release that can be found at www.alaska.avo.edu. We appreciate your observations and please continue to let us know what you are seeing or hearing from the volcano. -Janet -------- Jennifer Kalmakoff wrote: Our village president Gerald Kosbruk has been trying to call you folks about our volcano. It's been rumbling so loud it's got some villagers in a panic. This is the first time we have ever heard it this loud even in the past yrs. Sounds like a large machine rumbler passing by your house even heard inside. His contact phone is 853-4066
