Hi Hazel - There is no formal volunteer program at AVO. If someone is working in an area that you are highly motivated to volunteer in (see our staff pages here: https://www.avo.alaska.edu/about/staff.php?mode=alpha ) you can reach out to them and ask about volunteering, as individual AVO staff members do informally work with volunteers from time to time, especially volunteers who live in Anchorage or Fairbanks. We also recommend the International Volcanology Field School: https://www.uaf.edu/geosciences/academics/international-volcanology/index.ph... Best wishes on your studies, Cheryl Cameron -------- Hazel Nicholson wrote: Hello, I am currently a third year undergraduate studying geography at the University of Cambridge and I'm really interested in working with AVO over the summer. I lived in Anchorage between 2008 and 2013 and my first experience of the work done by AVO was during the 2009 Redoubt Eruption. Later I visited the Anchorage offices on a school trip and was fascinated. This year I am specialising in volcanology and environmental knowledges. Previously I have studied the communication and creation of risk. I am particularly interested in the communication of volcanic hazards and remote detection of activity. The work done by AVO is frequently mentioned in lectures and supervisions and I would love to learn from your organisation. I understand that there is no formal internship programme but would appreciate any opportunities that there may be. Many thanks for your consideration.
