Hello Sandra - Apologies for the delayed response. I don't know of any "hot spots" on Edgecumbe. The last significant eruptions on Edgecumbe were 3-5,000 years ago, although Tlingit oral history describes some very small eruption(s) about 800 years ago. There is some new research into locating geologically young vents in Southeast, including near Edgecumbe, but I have not heard anyone describe these as "hot". Hope this is helpful, Cheryl -------- Sandra Kincheloe wrote: I live in Sitka and received a report from a visitor this week that a "reputable vulcanologist" told her that there were currently 4 hot spots on Mt Edgecumbe. I would very much like to know if this is true and, if so, how were they detected and confirmed. I am very interested in Mt Edgecumbe ever since a lecture many years ago by James Riehle and would be pleased to know if there is any new information.
