Hello Jan - Your friend's flight was cancelled because of ash from Klyuchevskoy - a volcano in Russia. Russian volcanoes in Kamchatka are monitored by a Russian agency called KVERT. AVO does work closely with the NWS and volcanic ash advisory centers to track ash from foreign volcanoes. You can find more information about Klyuchevskoy in these places: http://vaac.arh.noaa.gov/ http://www.kscnet.ru/ivs/kvert/index_eng.php (page appears to be not working right at this minute) http://aawu.arh.noaa.gov/sigmets/index.php Thank you, Cheryl -------- Jan St. Peters wrote: My friend got stuck in Soldotna last night, trying to fly to Anchorage because of the eruption. ERA wouldn't fly and her Anchorage flight was cancelled. But when you come to this website, both last night and today, it's still on yellow. I was trying to give her information. I'm a little confused. -- Cheryl Cameron Geologist, Alaska Volcano Observatory Alaska Division of Geological & Geophysical Surveys voice: 907-451-5012 fax: 907-451-5050
