I am a passionate and highly enthusiastic 2nd year BSc Geography and Natural Hazards undergraduate with in depth knowledge in; GIS software (ArcGIS); Environmental & Meteorological Processes; Sustainability; Numerical, Spatial and Fieldwork Skills; and Project Management. In addition to my academic abilities, I possess work experience as a research scientist, a University Student Ambassador, and in customer services, and have developed skills in; ICT; data collection and management; working within a team and alone; communication & problem-solving. I am interested in working in Alaska primarily because of my commitment to developing my knowledge, skills & experience towards completing a PhD in volcanism and establishing a career observing volcanoes as a leading volcanologist. I would like to study the properties of volcanoes, lava, rock, ashes and gases and be able to predict volcanic eruptions accurately to gain a better understanding of the processes behind volcanic activity and the impact that former and future eruptions had, and will have in shaping the climate. In addition to this, as part of my final year project, I am investigating stratovolcanoes at subduction boundaries and how the magma is distributed between these and if it could ever reach a point of equilibrium. This programme will give me the opportunity to broaden my horizons academically – whether this is working on a particular or multiple projects.
