Re: Plume on Redoubt Monday October 12, 2015
Hello Marcus - Under optimal atmospheric viewing conditions, Redoubt often has a steam plume visible from Anchorage - this is the result of the still-cooling 2009 lava dome and fumaroles around the dome. These plumes are a frequent occurrence at Redoubt and, on their own, don't signify a change in activity. Yesterday's plumes caught a higher-than-usual level of attention. Alaska Dispatch News wrote an article: http://www.adn.com/article/20151012/what-was-cloud-spotted-rising-redoubt-vo... We don't see anything anomalous in seismic or satellite data at Redoubt. It looks cloudy today, but you can view our Redoubt webcams here: https://www.avo.alaska.edu/webcam/Redoubt_-_Hut.php Hope this is helpful, Thank you, Cheryl Cameron -------- Marcus L Hartley wrote: Driving home on Anchorage Hillside last night around sunset, I saw a plume coming off of Redoubt. I took a photo, that shows the plume if zoomed in. Nothing on your site about activity at Redoubt.
