Re: areas of remaining ash on an Alaska Map
Hi Matthew, I think your email may have already been forwarded to Kristi Wallace (kwallace@usgs.gov) who runs the Alaska Tephra Lab in Anchorage. but if not, I apologize for the delay in response. There is one main area of resuspended ash in Alaska - the area around Katmai/Novarupta, with ash from the 1912 eruption of Pavlof. Sometimes we see resuspended ash from Aniakchak, also, however, and of course recent eruptions may create resuspended ash, usually close to time to when the eruption occurred. I don't think we've created a product that gives outlines of these resuspended ash areas -- but if it would be useful to you and others we can start working on it. Thank you, Cheryl Hello, I work for the FAA and am trying to find a map of areas that have ash from old volcanic eruptions in Alaska. The idea for these maps is to show if the wind is blowing in certain directions it may will create resuspended ash that may effect aircraft. If you have a map that you can send me it would be greatly appreciated. -Matthew
