Re: monitoring of alaskan volcanoes
Hi Lawrence - We have been able to repair quite a few seismic stations and volcanic networks in recent years, so some Alaska volcanoes are in better seismic monitoring shape than they have been. AVO considers all five of the "Very High Threat" volcanoes in Alaska as seismically monitored, and I believe this was also the case in 2005 (there is opportunity for more seismic stations, GPS, infrasound, gas, etc.) Several "High Threat" volcanoes are not seismically monitored, including Churchill, Hayes, Kaguyak, Pavlof Sister, Seguam, and Semisopochnoi. There are, of course, many more "Moderate" and "Low" threat volcanoes that are not monitored. Thank you, Cheryl -------- Lawrence Tineeven wrote: Hi, I'd been looking around at US volcano information and stumbled upon the NVEWS 2005 study of US volcanoes listing those that needed updated monitoring. Do you know if the Alaskan volcanoes on that list have all received updated monitoring? Thanks!
