Hello Marianne - Yes, we are always interested in seeing old volcano photographs - particularly ones with a date! Pavlof was active so often between 1936 and 1948 that we have it as one eruption in our database (although likely it was many short explosive events, with periods of non-eruption inbetween.) It would be great to flesh out that timeline a little better (esp. with photographic evidence.) http://www.avo.alaska.edu/volcanoes/volcact.php?volcname=Pavlof&eruptionid=205&page=basics If you could send me a scan of the picture, or the picture itself (I would scan it and send the original back to you), that would be wonderful. Thank you for thinking of us, Cheryl Cameron AVO-DGGS 3354 College Road Fairbanks, AK 99709 -------- MarianneSchlegelmilch wrote: Today I found an old photograph that is labeled in pencil on the back as "Pavlof Volcano 1943". It is a black and white photoabout 2X3" or maybe slightly larger that shows mountains with a large cloud of black smoke above one of them. It belonged to my father who was stationed in Cold Bay in WWII. Is this photo of any value or interest to AVO? Did Pavlof volcano erupt that year?I don't see it as doing so on your website I live in Homer. Thanks.
