Yes, we thought along similar lines! We've considered Kamchatkan eruptions -- none of them line up well with the timing and distribution of this ash. Thank you, Cheryl
my bet for the mystery ash is from a source on the Kamchatka Peninsula. weather makes sense, Beziamnny and Scheveluch both active at the time... just my speculation. Chico State geologist, i am.
