Hello Courtney. Internships: AVO has no formal internship program. We have no internships, so no application. Occasionally highly-motivated students contact individual AVO researchers and do volunteer at AVO. HVO does have a much more robust volunteer program: http://hvo.wr.usgs.gov/volunteer/ Some AVO-affiliated student programs that are open to non-UAF students and are highly recommended are PIRE (Partnership in Volcanological Research and Education) and the UAF International Field Camp (with Alaskan and Russian courses): US-Russia-Japan Partnership (see the links at the top of the website) http://www.uaf.edu/geology/Research/research/volcanology.html PIRE http://www.gps.alaska.edu/PIRE/PIRE.html UAF G&G International Field Camp http://www.uaf.edu/geology/InternVolcanologySchool/2000index.htm Thank you, Cheryl Cameron -------- Courtney A Targos wrote: To whom it may concern, I was looking over the website and read that you do not do internships specifically. I am unsure of what that means, so I thought I would follow up. I am a Master's student that is finishing this summer from the University of Minnesota Duluth. I am very interested in volcanoes, but my area of study is fluvial geomorphology. I have a lot of experience using ArcGIS, ground penetrating radar (GPR) and associated programming, extensive field work experience (as well as organize undergrad workers), optically stimulated luminescence (OSL) dating sample collection and processing, and I know many computer programs. I am also completing a "Stream Restoration" certificate offered through the University of Minnesota Twin Cities. I have a wide variety of skills (thanks to my undergraduate adviser and graduate adviser). I am just looking to get some information on whether or not you do internships and if so, where to go from here to apply. Thank you very much for your time. -- Cheryl Cameron Geologist, Alaska Volcano Observatory Alaska Division of Geological & Geophysical Surveys voice: 907-451-5012 fax: 907-451-5050
