Re: Katmai Samples GPS coordinates?
Hello Kelsey - I see that the public sample interface doesn't give lat/long! We'll work on that, so there are some samples that do have lat/long that we can give you. I would caution that lat/longs of previous samples in the Katmai area are usually not GPS points, though. For quite a few references, I digitize based off of dots on page-sized figures. Which is better than no location at all, but not terribly accurate. However, concerning Wes Hildreth and Judy Fierstein samples, I do not have lat/long for those. Only Wes and Judy have that information. We are also working on an improved public interface for searching sample metadata and analyses. Thanks for your patience, Cheryl -------- Kelsey Williams wrote: I am currently trying to find exact locations for some of the samples analyzed from the Katmai area. I see that the AVO website maps the samples - giving sample name/station and compositional data - but I am struggling to find any reference to the exact location. I'm assuming since they are plotted on a map in the website (ex: http://www.avo.alaska.edu/volcanoes/data.php?volcname=Trident) that GPS or Long/Lat data exists SOMEWHERE. Is it possible to obtain this data? I see the Long/Lat listing of the volcanoes, but not of the samples. Additionally, the references that analyzed the samples (mainly Hildreth) only mention the general location where each comes from, not including GPS location. I would greatly appreciate this information and/or instructions as to how to obtain it.
