Hello Julie - Well, defining "inactive" is a tricky question. It's probably better to use the term "dormant" or "extinct." Having said that, I am not aware of any compilation of dormant or extinct volcanoes in Alaska - there are very old (millions of years) volcanoes and vents in Alaska still recognizable, and even more that are no longer easily recognizable as such. Our website catalogs Alaskan volcanoes up to 2 million years old - which we hope is longer than the repose period of these volcanoes. Fourpeaked, which had a phreatic eruption in 2006, had not had an eruption within the last 10,000 years or so. Thank you for your interest, and apologies for being less help. If your daughter has a different volcano question, I'd be happy to try to answer. -Cheryl -------- Julie Ansell wrote: I am hoping that you can tell me how many inactive volcanoes there are in Alaska? This is for a report my daughter is writing. Thanks so much.
