Re: Volcanic Eruption Data
Hello James - I can query the db to pull some of this information out for you, but we don't store all of it. I'll send a separate email with tables. (This email reply system doesn't permit attachments.) Additionally, there are important caveats. --many events are suspected --time periods where there is less than 90 days between eruptive activity at a volcano get lumped into one eruption. For example, the dozens of small explosions and several domes at Cleveland from mid-2011 through Jan 2013 are ONE eruption. There is one eruption at Trident from mid-1950s until mid-1970s. --I store only the max VEI --I used to store region, but they were just for handy display on maps. Now that we can do dynamic maps, I don't track regions anymore. I've learned everyone would prefer to draw his/her own boundaries, based on whatever criteria are most important to him/her. --volumes: For the volcanoes that have this, it's in a giant text field about the eruption, not in a field I can easily pull out. There aren't many. (couple dozen, max. I can give you the text fields - typos and all - and you can find them. Usually at the very end of the field.) --I have no idea what you might mean by "intensity". We use VEI (as assigned by the Smithsonian Institution Global Volcanism Program) Please credit AVO as the source of this information. -cheryl -------- James Pearson wrote: I am a graduate student at Eastern Washington University. I want to download the data for volcanic eruption events from the Alaska region but can not find a way to do so. The data is going to be used for a class data mining project. We need eruption data from 1800 to present. The data fields we are looking for are below. Please let me know how to obtain this data.
