Re: Cleveland Volcano Lightning
Hi Whitham, there are several lightning detection systems in place for monitoring eruptions, I think the man to talk to would be Steve McNutt (steve@giseis.alaska.edu). He's gone till January 4th, but should be able to talk after that. Thanks! -Seth -------- Whitham D. Reeve wrote: Hello - I have observed lightning activity on my lightning detection system over the last few days (http://www.reeve.com/Lightning/StormVue.html). While the distance shown is anomalous, the direction of some activity is about right for Mt. Cleveland. I know there is significant lightning activity associated with ash plumbs and eruptions (I observed and recorded Mt. Redoubt in 2009, see here: http://www.reeve.com/mt_redoubt.htm) and would like to try correlating my data in time with reports of activity at Mt. Cleveland. Could you comment on this and also point me to where I can find reported times of activity?
