During our time on the Homer Spit we were fortunate to see Mt. Augustine, Mt. Douglas, Mt. Fourpeaked and another mountain peak to the west of Douglas and Fourpeaked that I had never seen before and still am not certain of. In researching this further, I discovered that we were able to see these three peaks as a result of a phenomenon known as a Towering Superior Mirage. I was able to take photographs of all 4 mountains (Augustine, Douglas, Fourpeaked and the “unknown one”). In looking at your website and others that provide information and photos regarding the Aleutian mountain range, I’ve narrowed it down to 4 possible options. I believe this “unknown” peak to be either Mt. Kagyuyak, Mt. Devils Desk, Mt. Katmai or Mt. Griggs.
